Abrasives Industry
The use of Quartz in Silicon Carbide and other Abrasive Materials :
Quartz (Silica) Granules :
In the production of silicon carbide grains, high-purity silica sand and quartz are essential raw materials. The silica sand must have an extremely high silicon dioxide content (over 99%), with minimal impurities – specifically very low levels of iron oxide and aluminium oxide (each under 0.1%), and absolutely no presence of lime, magnesia, or phosphorous. Similarly, the quartz used must meet strict chemical composition requirements, including a silicon dioxide concentration between 99.50% and 99.75%, controlled amounts of aluminium oxide (0.04-0.05%), iron oxide (0.05-0.10%), and limited calcium and magnesium oxide content (1.10%).
